We said we’d never take more than we could make more than we could make more than we could make The taste of the color of your touch on skin The smell of the summer and the record spins The joy of the child who learns to tend These insides of soil again again again again again again Well I come to you cold and dusty, friend. To shake off the old road, take flight again. Is our love the tale told of how we tend These insides of soil again again again again again again When I lie with you in slumber I forget all my dreams, when I lie with you in slumber I forget all my dreams, when I lie with you in slumber I forget all my dreams, I forget all my dreams, I forget all my Well love comes, and love goes, and I go home. And what does the love know that I don't know? Will the fields all fall fallow, will we defend These insides of soil again again again again again again? When I lie with you in slumber I forget all my dreams, when I lie with you in slumber I forget all my dreams, when I lie with you in slumber I forget all my dreams, I forget all my dreams, I forget all my We said we’d never take more than we could make more than we could make more than we could make

BY THE TAPROOT May I have a moment to prepare? May I have a moment to prepare? May I have a moment to prepare? You were standing beside me we were barely talking when I pulled my heart out by the taproot. I thought, “I will never love again.” I thought, “I never knew how to love.” (Is that true?) Did we grow? I don’t know what happens underground. Did we grow? I don’t know what happens underground. There are not words for everything. And there are so so many words. And that’s all I have to say at this time

WHEN THE SUN LEAVES TO ROAM When I heard you had died our dear babies cried When I heard you had died on the road. When I heard you had died our dear babies cried And they knew they could never be born. And at night when the sun leaves to roam leaves to roam At night when the sun leaves to roam I can hear our children crying all alone all alone I can hear our children crying all alone. They say, “Oh where oh where has our dear Papa gone? Why has he left you all alone?” I say, “Your dear Papa died on the road on the road, my darling you can never be born.” I say, “Your dear Papa died on the road on the road, so darling you can never be born.”

This old world is breaking my heart again trouble I thought you'd drift right out of town but this old world is bringing me down. This boat's taking on water as fast as I can row I don't know that it will ever find the shore I went to warn the captain I tried to tell the crew they sent me to the cynic who simply showed me to the door I don't know that I shall ever see the shore. When you read your morning paper please keep an eye for me boy was swallowed by the never loving sea his boat could not be found because it could not find the shore all they found was his body and there's more he was found with his hand upon the oar he went down with his hands upon the oar. This old world is bringing me down again.

Stephen loved the poor and weak they killed him with a stone an angel from heaven held his hand Stephen didn't even moan poor Stephen didn't even moan. Jesus when you come for me how will I really know send my brother Gabriel down to make that whistle blow oh make that whistle blow. Rock me river rock me dear to the depths below carry my body away from here when's my time to go oh when's my time to go. I'm doing the best I can I cannot do no more wanna get to heaven and the holy land gotta keep on the narrow keep on the narrow road. When I die you can bury me boil or burn my bones drown them in the deepest sea but don't ever let me die alone no never let me die alone.

It’s a hard road without you, a heavy load I can’t make it alone, I can’t make it alone. And I’m so angry, my heart is so heavy. And I can’t let go, I don’t wanna let go. And if you’re gone, then I’m gone too I never wanted to need you like I do But I do. Where does your love go when your heart stops beating, When your lungs stopped breathing life into us all? And if you’re gone, then who am I talking to? I never wanted to need you like I do And if you’re gone, there’s so much work to do, No one can fill the hole your light fell through Nobody but you. I’m holding on and you are on your way.

The Lord only knows how tired I've been. I'm trying to keep on but I don't know when will trouble take my worried mind and let me alone again. The Lord only knows how tired I've been. I'm trying to make the most I can of the worn out, run down wretch I am. I tried to tell the doctor, but she would not understand, the Lord only knows how troubled I am. Please tell my ma I'll be home soon, in time to see the poppies bloom. The Lord who knows how tired I've been will see me safely home again.

WELCOME TO THE RAIN At the end of October, the rain starts a-falling, And we start a-wondering just how to stay outside. Cuz we don't wanna hide, from the clouds and from the water. So we say hello to the rain. The rain carries our prayers to the river. And washes our sorrows away. The rain says remember, blue skies don't last forever, so say hello to today. Welcome to the rain. I was sitting on the front porch, washing the roots of dandelion. You know the roots in the falltime love the rain. And the rain comes singing, its footsteps touch the ground, Each one bringing the sweetest sound. Rain says, "Offer your prayers to the river. Don't hold on so hard to the pain. Don't you go thinking that you are a-sinking. Don't worry, it's just me, Rain. Don't worry, it's just me, Rain." At night as we lie sleeping, perennial roots lie a-dreaming Of the leaves that they'll push up towards the sun. And the rain is a drum, pounding out the dreambeat, and in our sleep we sing the water song. Will you carry our prayers to the river? And wash all our sorrows away? Will you help me remember that nothing lasts forever? Welcome to the rain. Goodnight goodnight rain.

I know there will come a day when I will throw these shoes away no more thumbing down the old highway just trying to find a ride to heaven knows where I've been but I am bound for home again I'm waiting on the day no body to tie me down I'm waiting on the day no body gonna keep me down. I went to church the preacher spoke of father son and holy ghost and how they hated gays the most I got the hell out running heaven knows how hard I've tried to keep my savior satisfied I'm waiting on the day... If I should die before I wake I give the world my flesh to take it tried so hard my soul to break I'm bruised but I will fly to heaven knows I've done my best and I know heaven will do the rest I'm waiting on the day... When Autumn turns the leaves to gold and time has turned me grey and old I'll turn my collar to the cold and set out on that road to heaven knows where I've been but soon I will be home again I'm waiting on the day no body to tie me down I'm waiting on the day no body gonna keep me down.

Wake up in the morning and I look at the ceiling And start to get this funny little feeling I feel a rumbling inside my belly I think it’s time to get some toast and jelly Time for Breakfast Breakfast Breakfast! You’re not awake yet so I pound on your door And you say, “Oh man! Won’t you let me dream some more?” But I say, “The sun is shining and the birds are singing! It’s time to get the breakfast feeling! Time for Breakfast Breakfast Breakfast!” Time to get up, it’s a brand new day, Time to spend some time together Before we go off into this big old city And lose each other. Black beans are on the stove, And the toast is in the toaster and Hot water’s steaming up, I think it’s getting closer to Breakfast Breakfast Breakfast! Time to get up, it’s a brand new day, Time to spend some time together Before we go off into this big old city And loooooooose each other. Breakfast Breakfast Breakfast!
